Praktik Fishfinders are designed to measure water depth and find promising fishing spots. The operating principle of Praktik fishfinders is based on the sensor-transducer emitting ultrasonic waves into the water and subsequently receiving echo pulses reflected from the bottom or other objects. The probing beam forms a cone with its vertex at the sensor, usually located just below the water surface, and its base at the bottom. When an ultrasonic wave encounters an obstacle, part of it is reflected and returns to the sensor-transducer, and information about the presence of this object is displayed on the receiver screen. The instruction drawings show typical images on the fishfinder screen and the corresponding information in the water column during summer and winter. It is very important to understand that the fishfinder does not display a volumetric (three-dimensional) representation of the water column, but only a projection onto a vertical plane passing through the middle of the probing cone. This creates the illusion that all objects detected by the beam are located under the sensor. Modern fishing is based on a principle that focuses not so much on finding fish as on determining traditional habitats. The main thing is to understand the body of water and the fish in it, and the fishfinder will be invaluable in solving this task. However, to fully understand the displayed picture, it is necessary to acquire certain experience.
